CIRCULAR ECONOMY
AT THE SERVICE OF THE COMMON GOOD

from seized assets to practices against educational poverty

The Emmaus Italia PASSIONE CIVILE PALERMO 2019 volunteer camp will see the participation of about 60 volunteers and companions, committed from July 15^thto August 11^th, divided in 2 turns of 2 weeks each.

In particular:

I Turn for individuals: from the 15^thto the 28^thof July (2 weeks at the price of 60 euros);

II Turn, International, for individuals: from the 29^thto the 11^thof August (2 weeks at the price of 60 euros);

The cost includes board and lodging (except for the days off) at Casa Emmaus in Viale Regione Siciliana (south-east) 6371, the house seized to mafia and assigned to Emmaus Italia by the Municipality of Palermo, and at Lambruschini school in via Don Minzoni 1 jointly with the Marconi Comprehensive Institute.

The volunteers will take part in:

• the self-financing activities, that are typical of Emmaus movement (leafleting; collecting the donations of second-hand items; selection, arrangement and sale of second-hand items at Emmaus second-hand market; recycling and creative reuse);
• restoration activities and labor (for example cleaning, painting, gardening, spaces restoration etc.) of Casa Emmaus, which is a house that was seized to mafia and that has been just assigned to Emmaus Italia by the Municipality of Palermo with the aim of hospitality;
• the social entertainment and the organization of a summer camp for the children of the neighborhood (circus, street educational activities and sport with minors);
• the concrete support of the local associations which deal with solidarity and the fight against misery (helping in Caritas’ kitchen and canteen).

During the summer camp, there will be meetings with experts regarding the issues: environment and eco-sustainability; peace, nonviolence and conflict management; legality, active citizenship and democratic participation; history of the mafia and the anti-mafia movement; daily anti-mafia practices: from the social reuse of seized assets to the critical consumption against pizzo.

The volunteers will have also three days off for each camp turn (to rest, visit the city or go to the beach).
